When a horse is exposed to the sun for a long time, it might get a sunburn. To prevent this from happening, keep the horse away from direct sunlight, especially when the sun is at its hottest.
Here are some steps you can follow:
Provide a shade for your horse by building a run-in shelter or have it run under the line of trees
Keep your horse in a stable during the daytime. Let it out to graze during nighttime.
Apply a baby formula sunblock on the parts that will be exposed to the sun. Remember to reapply after a few hours because it can be washed away.
Use a sunblock especially formulated for horses. It also uses a bright color that can help you determine whether it's time to put on a new coat of sunblock to your horse.
