First Cat


The President of the United States and the his family are called the First family. The President’s wife is often referred to as the First Lady (or First Man if the president is female). In addition, the pets of the First Family are called First Pets. Did you know there’ve been a few First Cats that have found their way to fame via their role in the White House. For instance, the first feline friends were brought into the White House by President Abraham Lincoln. When he entered the White House he brought his cats with him including his son’s tabby cat appropriately named Tabby. Some historians have even suggested that Lincoln was known to feed Tabby with a gold fork at White House dinners. Another notable kitty was President Kennedy’s daughter’s cat Tom Kitten.
