In multi-cat households, the cats often eat their meals together. But there are instances when there is a need to feed them separately, such as in the following situations--
A cat with a medical problem needs to be placed on a special diet
Obese or overweight cats that are on a weight-loss diet
Resource guarding issues that cause fighting over food
One of the cats need to take medication that is mixed into his food
Cats have various ages/life stages
So how should these cats be fed separately without causing any problems?
Try feeding your furballs in different rooms and be sure to close the doors while they’re eating.
Feed cats in the same room but do so at different times. Other cats should not be allowed access to the room when a cat is eating.
Use baby gates to divide one room so your cats can eat at the same time without having any access to the food of other cats.
Place your cats on different levels during feeding time. You can put a younger cat on a shelf or table while the older one’s food bowl is placed on the floor.
