Fall Eye Care For Kids

You probably know that fall is a peak time for allergies. If your little one reacts to substances like pollen, dust, leaves, or pet dander, they may be quite stuffy and miserable at this time of year.

A good air filter and humidifier or dehumidifier—depending on your locale—can be very helpful. It's also important to teach your little one to wash their hands regularly, and avoid rubbing their eyes.

Pinkeye is another concern at this time of year. Hand washing will go a long way here. You can also teach your child to use antibacterial gels and hand sanitizers.

Back to school time is also a great time for a full eye exam. While they may get a basic screening at school, these can miss as many as 75 percent of issues.

Safety gear is also important, particularly for kids involved with sports. Make sure your child is wearing the right type of protective glasses or shields.

You can get more tips on caring for your child's eyes from your Marysville, WA optometrist.
