The English Springer's exercise needs depend on his type. Generally, Field Springers have more exercise needs than Show Springers. It's best if you can provide a well-fenced outdoor play space or a twice-a-day long walk, not to mention pools or lakes to stimulate your dog's swimming skills.
Puppies at different stages need different exercise structures. From the 9th to 16th week, pup kindergartens work best in providing exercise, early socialization, and training. Add 15-20 minutes of outdoor playtime and a fetch game, too. Four to six-month-old pups should be exposed to obedience classes weekly, plus playtime and a half-mile walk every day.
By the 6th month, ball/Frisbee fetching should be done twice a day for 40 minutes (given the nice weather). Maintain their half-mile walks. It's only at the age of one year that dogs can start to jog, but don't increase the half-mile distance immediately— give frequent breaks. Increase the jogging intensity in a gradual manner to protect your dog's gradually developing joints/bones.
Make sure that your pet’s preventatives and vaccines are up to date before outdoor excursions. Call your animal hospital Middletown, DE for information.
