Does Your Dog Suffer Motion Sickness?

It pays to know more than one remedy to car sickness. Dogs can't tell you directly what they're feeling, but their behavior is often enough. It's up to you to read their body language so you can minimize any discomfort they might be feeling.

Keep your emotions in check. If your pet throws up inside your car, don't reprimand him. He didn't go out of his way to feel sick. You took him with you, and raising your voice isn't going to help things. Clean up, pet your dog gently, and if you can, reduce your speed.

There are medicines available for dogs who show severe symptoms when in transit. Of course, you would need a prescription from your dog's vet. Don't let that be your go-to solution, however. You don't want your dog to become dependent on them.

Have your dog look in the direction you're heading. Dizziness is more likely to happen if your pet's gaze is all over the place while you're driving. Giving your little friend something to focus on will help reduce that dizziness.

You can also take breaks now and then and step out of the car. Dogs are suckers for fresh air, and if your pet throws up on the side of the road instead of in your vehicle, you will have dodged a bullet.

Your vet Chesapeake VA can enlighten you about important health issues that can affect your pet.
