Dehydration In Pet Cats And Dogs

The body of dogs and cats consists of a lot of water (more than 60%). Therefore, you would need to provide enough water for your pet each day. However, this is often not met and dogs and cats could suffer from low-state, chronic dehydration.

You may be providing your pet with adequate amounts of water but if they experience diarrhea or vomiting, they could still lose those fluids and get dehydrated. To determine whether your pet suffers from dehydration, you can conduct two tests. One is called the test for skin elasticity and then the other is the saliva test. Test of skin elasticity is pretty straightforward where you would pull some skin located on the back of his neck and check the time it returns to its place. Properly hydrated skin should take at least two seconds to spring back. The longer the time it takes, the more dehydrated your pet is. To test his saliva, place a finger on his gums, and observe the feel of saliva. It should be wet and moist upon touching.

If your pet is showing signs of dehydration, call your animal hospital Acupuncture immediately. Or make an appointment here: https://www.bendvets.com/
