Combing Your Cat’s Matted Hair

Grooming your long-haired cat may require hard work, patience, and teamwork for you and your beloved feline friend. This endeavor can be quite challenging and overwhelming that should be done with caution and care. But remember that doing this gives you and your pet a chance to bond and establish a good relationship founded on trust.

So how should you groom your cat?

After identifying the cat's mats, comb them but do not forget to separate them first. When ready, use a flea comb with a fine tooth. Your non-dominant hand should grip the base of the mat, holding it down with a forefinger and thumb. Doing this will help avoid pulling the hair.

Start the combing from the tip of the hair, slowly moving down into the mat. Experts advise using the comb’s first four pegs in attending to the stubborn hair strands.

In de-matting your cat, you may encounter problems. For this reason, be patient as you tackle all mats. Do not try to push it, and address all mats at once.

Any problem affecting your pet's skin and/or hair coat should require a visit to an animal hospital Dawsonville, GA.
