Cold Weather Safety For Pets

Here are tips to keep your pets happy and safe this winter:

●Limit their outdoor time.

If the weather feels too cold for you, it may be for your pet, too. Monitor how long your pet has been out in the cold, as even a short time spent outside can already cause hypothermia and frostbite. Provide a sweater, especially for small or thin-coated dogs. Booties also help in keeping your pet's paws dry and warm.

●Walk briskly and supervise potty breaks.

Whenever you let your pet take the call of nature outdoors, make sure they come back immediately when they're done. Stand by the door to ensure that you don't get distracted by household stuff and completely forget that your pet has been out for so long. You must also minimize the time for their outdoor walks to ensure they're not overly exposed to the cold. Instead, make their walks just enough to relieve themselves.

If your pet is showing signs of hypothermia, contact your veterinary hospital Carmel Valley immediately. Schedule an appointment today!
