Cats Should Not Eat Chocolate

Did you know that chocolate can be dangerous for dogs and cats? Chocolate is harmful to cats. Chocolate may be good for people but it is a toxin to cats whether it’s eaten in small or large pieces. If you think your cat has eaten chocolate please call your vet right away. Chocolate flavored treats like cookies, candy, and other baked are just as dangerous as straight up solid chocolate. Why? The chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine chemicals which can cause your cat harm. These chemicals stimulate the heart and the nervous system and should be avoided. The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is to your cat. Signs of chocolate poisoning may include vomiting, increased thirst, discomfort of the abdomen, agitation, muscle tremors, high temperatures, irregular heartbeat, seizures, and even death. If your cat has these signs call your vet Jacksonville, FL right away.
