Cats and Grass

It can be pretty common to see a dog lick, eat or chew on grass, but what about a cat? It’s not really all that uncommon for cats to eat or lick grass. Your cat may even throw up after he has eaten grass, but that’s not a typical sign for worry either. In fact, some experts believe that eating blades of grass can actually be beneficial for your cat. It is thought that cats throw up after eating grass because they lack the necessary enzymes to break down vegetation. Those same experts believe that cats will eat the grass to make themselves throw up as a way to clean up their digestive tract and eliminate indigestible matter such as fur, bones, feathers, etc. The cat may ultimately feel better after eating grass and vomiting. In addition, grass acts as a natural laxative and also provides folic acid, an essential vitamin for a cat’s bodily functions. Learn more here or call your vets Rochester, NY.
