Cat Communication: Visual Signaling

Are you well aware of the fact that animals communicate with one another? Of course, you are; and of course, they do. All living beings need to have a form of communication, no matter how unique it may be, for them to thrive in this world where they live together.

If you are a fur parent, understand how your cat “talks” with her fellow felines. Why is it necessary for you to know this? Knowing how your beloved cat communicates can help you be a great cat-human, addressing all her concerns.

So how do cats communicate? These species generally try to avoid staring at each other directly in the eyes or face. Other signals are realized.

Visual signals

These signals are gestures among cats, including the following:

● Facial expressions (limited due to their flat faces)

● Body postures

● Pupil size

● Hair erection

Other visual signals of cats are their arched back and crouching down or cringing. The first movement means a feline is in a defensive mode, and the second one indicates the cat is in a defensive posture. When a feline stretches her body, she is confident or ready to fight/attack.

A sudden change in your pet’s behavior should warrant a call to your animal clinic Dawsonville, GA. Click here to set an appointment.
