Caring For Your Dog's Ears

Ear checks have to be included with your dog’s grooming schedules. This is vital for pets that produce earwax excessively or just have lots of hair in their inner ear. But do not clean his ears so often or so deep that irritation could result. Never insert anything in your dog’s ears.

If your pet’s inner ears look dirty, use some gauze or cotton balls, moisten them with some mineral oil or hydrogen peroxide to clean them. You can also try ear-cleaning fluid that is specific for this use.

Gently fold your dog’s ear back and then wipe off any earwax or debris on the ear’s underside that is visible. Take care to lift the dirt away rather than pushing it further inside the ear. The skin inside the inner ear is delicate, so you may want to take direction from your veterinarian regarding the proper way of cleaning your pet’s ears.

Ear problems should be brought to the attention of your vet Lewisville, TX. Read more here.
