Caring For Newborn Kittens

One of the early lessons to give to newborn kittens is litter box training. Young cats do not know how to use the litter box, and their mother should teach them. But if the mama cat is not available, it is up to you to teach the young kitties.

The first thing you should do is introduce the litter box to the young cat. Tell her where the litter box is located and what it does. And as part of the training, you may have to stimulate bowel movement so your young pet will fully understand. To do this, you might want to follow this advice from Canada’s Pet Information Centre: wipe the kitten’s urogenital area with a warm washcloth or cotton ball until she eliminates it. Repeat this process on a regular interval until your kitten learns the behavior.

It is also important that your kitten is groomed properly. Brush her hair regularly to keep the hair coat shiny. It also removes excess hair before it falls on your furniture. Next, trimming the claws prevents your cat from overgrowth and getting snagged.

If you have concerns about your pet’s health and well-being, ask your animal hospital Pembroke Pines, FL.
