Blepharitis, or the inflammation of the eyelids, is a typical disorder where the eyelids have a buildup, becoming red and inflamed. Luckily, this does not threaten vision. It could, however, be quite unsightly and feel uncomfortable.
What can cause eyelid inflammation?
Eyelid inflammation comes in two types, each one has a different cause:
Anterior blepharitis is the kind that affects the eyelid’s outer part, where the eyelashes are. This is typically caused by the bacteria that comes from the eyebrows and hair.
Posterior blepharitis is the kind that affects the eyelid’s inner part. It results from too much oil made by glands that are close to the lashes.
Eyelid Inflammation symptoms
Eye care professionals must diagnose blepharitis through careful eye examinations so that the cause can be determined. The most common symptoms exhibited are:
●Scaly or crusty texture
●Dry eyes
●Red eyes
●Swollen eyelids
●Light sensitivity
●Excessive itching and/or watering
●A feeling that a foreign object is in your eye
