Baby Snapping Turtles Personality And Temperament

Unsurprisingly, baby snapping turtles can be aggressive, as their name suggests. They could bite once they are triggered. And their bite is not as cute as their name sounds. They can even cut through the skin and bite off a toe or finger.

Once they hold their prey captive, their jaws snap shut, so they would not have any chance of escaping. When this happens, their jaws would lock tightly, and their locked jaws are hard to disengage.

These turtles’ average bite force is about 209 Newtons. They have specialized muscles around their body, which help them to strike firmly by their heads.

Knowing all that, you need to be extra cautious being around them. Make sure you won’t cause any threats to them, so they wouldn’t be triggered. It is not recommended that you let children play with them to prevent any bite incidents.
