Are Hairless Cats Hypoallergenic?

You would think hairless cats to be hypoallergenic. They aren’t. These hairless cat’s physiology still manufactures the Fel d1 protein which is an allergen or irritant found in a cat’s saliva and dander. So those sensitive or allergic to cats are not safe. But their secretions are a lot lower and because they don’t have much hair to shed, there’s a lot less of Fel d1 sticking around the home. You could say, that these hairless cats are tolerable for those allergic to cats.

Unfortunately, hairless cats will have to endure extreme temperature changes, hot and cold because they don’t have enough fur to dampen temperature swings. When the temperature drops to low levels, you should put on a sweater to assist with the cold. On the other end of the spectrum, don’t put your hairless cat under the blistering heat of the sun. This applies to all cats, even those which aren’t hairless. Cats, in general, should be kept indoors. All these should keep your feline healthy and in good condition. And also, don’t use sunscreen on your cats.
