Allergies And Hypersensitive Dogs

Dog allergies usually have symptoms like skin issues, but there is also the possibility of digestive and respiratory distress. If a certain allergen is exposed to one hypersensitive dog, that dog’s immune system will go into overdrive, trying to eliminate the allergen as a perceived threat, and the symptoms will manifest. This happens because antibodies going overdrive in the system will release chemicals known as histamines as a byproduct. Inflammation follows soon, with swelling, itching, hives, hot spots, redness, and rashes as obvious signs. Runny noses, coughs, and/or eye discharges can also be present in some dogs.

There are seasonal allergies and there are also ones that get triggered by a certain ingredient in dog food or by fleas that bite the dog. Allergies brought about by seasons are primarily genetic and can usually occur when the dog encounters and breathes in pollen or other allergens in the air. Flea based allergies happen if a dog has an allergic reaction to the protein present in the flea saliva.
