When cats get old, their mental and physical processes undergo decline. Their thinking slows down, and it affects their daily lives.


The cat’s decline can be attributed to the aging process. But there are other cases where the decline is due to some cognitive dysfunction. Remember the acronym DISH, as you watch for cues in your feline friend.


You can find out the signs of cognitive dysfunction due to aging. First, the cat will appear disoriented. This is shown when the cat seems to be lost or does not know where she is. She doesn't even recognize the human parent.


As cats grow older, they have lesser interactions. They no longer greet their humans, nor make an effort to be noticed.


Aging cats will have a different sleep-wake cycle. She will probably sleep in the daytime and wander at night. She will also engage in too much vocalization. Cats on a decline will fail to follow her housetraining. She might forget where the litter box is, or how to use it.
